United Voice, the hospitality union, is saddened to hear about the closure of the Woden Tradies Club but pleased at the outstanding way the closure has been communicated to staff.
Lyndal Ryan, ACT United Voice Branch Secretary says, “I was at the meeting with the employees this morning when the closure of the club and sale of the hotel was announced.
“The Woden Tradies Club has a proud history of fighting for a fair go for all of its staff and members. We note the many different occupations impacted by the closure – receptionist staff, housekeepers, chefs, waiters, bingo callers and kitchen hands.
“It was a sad occasion but we are pleased about the following:
- the six-month notice of the closure
- the invitation to meet with every employee individually to discuss outcomes that would best suit their individual circumstances – redundancy, or assistance to find new employment.
“The approach taken will mean that we will be able to develop a package of measures with the Tradies Group that can cater for casual staff on student visas as well as the career clubs workers who have been employed permanently at the club for thirty years.
