A migrant woman working two cleaning jobs in Northern Tasmania called in sick to one of her jobs. Later in the day, she was able to make it to her other job.
Without any formal investigation, the employer decided that her sick leave was not genuine and told the employee to resign.
The employer called, emailed and texted, pressuring her to sign resignation papers.
United Voice contacted the employer requesting an explanation and for the employee’s employment to be assured.
The employer agreed to reinstate the cleaner on her original roster and apologised for trying to force her to resign.
