For two years, Correctional Officers (COs) have been fighting to have their say on safety in prisons.
COs rallied, walked off the job and spoke to the media as members of their union, United Voice.
It was not about money – it was all about the safety of officers, the safety of the people who are imprisoned, and the safety of the community.
Correctional Officers wanted to ensure their enterprise agreement gave them a voice on safety.
On Monday, with further walk-offs looming, the Commission for Corrections and Minister met with the COs’ union.
Officers will now have a say on safety, after wording in the proposed enterprise agreement was agreed upon by both sides.
