Just over a year ago In August 2018, Premier Mark McGowan announced they would be tackling the ongoing issue of permanency in the Public Sector in Western Australia - including in hospitals - by giving current casuals the opportunity to go permanent.
A year later, not a single person had been made permanent.
This was not good enough! At the same place as his announcement - a year to the day, over 70 members from Royal Perth Hospital stopped work and rallied outside to show their growing frustration.
The McGowan Government heard members loud and clear and placed pressure on the Health Department, which resulted in 63 permanent jobs at RPH and overall 83 permanent positions at East Metro Health.
