Five Patient Transport Officers employed by the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) have won permanent employment status after having originally been employed as casuals.
During discussions last year United Voice and QAS agreed to give long term casual Patient Transport Officers a guaranteed pathway to full-time employment.
The initial group filled out the necessary paperwork to transfer to full-time contracts over the ensuing nine months.
Since then the union and QAS have put additional PTOs on the same pathway and have secured full-time contracts for several more members.
These members now have the security of a full-time job they can count on and the benefits, both financial and emotional, that come with full-time employment.
By binding together with their union, it’s good to know workers CAN still push back against a rising tide of casualisation and transform insecure employment arrangements into permanent jobs.
