"Yenny knew her rights"

Know Your Rights. Be In Your UnionBy being in her Union Yenny Yanni was able to take up the fight against underpayment and unfair treatment and won.

Yenny has been a school cleaner in the Sydney metro region for 10 years and has seen.

She came from Indonesia to Australia 14 years ago and her first job in Australia was at a Primo meat factory.

After 2 years at Primo, Yenny took a job as a school cleaner and has been working in the industry ever since.

Yenny joined United Voice in 2017, she knew there were a lot of problems in the cleaning industry and she was tired of being pushed around so when she met one of our organisers she signed up.

Yenny is a single mum so every win the union won, has made a big difference in her life.

Recently Yenny had discovered that her employer was consistently underpaying her.

Yenny knew her rights to the letter and used union power to see that they were enforced, securing backpay for all of her underpayments.

But the cleaning company weren't finished with Yenny, when a few weeks ago they terminated Yenny’s job.

Yenny wasn't going to take this lying down.

She enlisted the union Member Rights Centre and stood up to the company.

Eventually the cleaning company was found to have taken adverse action against Yenny, so the cleaning company had to reverse their decision and the very next day Yenny was reinstated!

Yenny was very happy and confident that if she had any further issues she could stand up, take action and defend her job.

Congrats to United Voice NSW Member Yenny on taking steps toward making yours a job you can count on.

Take the step to stand alongside Yenny here.
